Why I Underestimated Meditation

"In the same way that rain breaks into a house with a bad roof, desire breaks into the mind that has not been practicing meditation." Annonymus

I apologise, it has been some time since I have written a post, partly because of being busy and physically and mentally exhausted after a hectic month.

BUT we are back and not with something I would usually write about.

I've recently joined a new gym, as stated in my previous posts I'm currently taking time away from my normal routine and places I would attend on a daily basis. This new gym has a outdoor jacuzzi which for me is quite a fancy place to train when you are usually use to back street dirty gyms. I have given myself more time in the mornings to use the facilities as much as possible and this has resulted in more time within my head and a moment of still and relaxation, something that would never usually happen or have time for. A week ago I found myself outside in the jacuzzi alone with nothing but the sound of the distant traffic and the morning birds. I decided not to turn on the bubbles as I just wanted to sit in peace and be still, again I want to remind you this is something I would never do but for some reason I just felt the need to do it, maybe I'm getting old?? I lowered my body in the water keeping only my neck above and let my arms float freely, leaning back against the wall. Slowly I found myself concentrating on all the sounds around me but constantly being distracted by the sound of the distant traffic or have work come into my head, so I homed in on the sound of the birds talking to one another and by doing this and streamlining/controlling my senses I zoned out for a good 20 minutes, not thinking not stressing...just doing nothing. Even during this time a lifeguard and cleaner had been around me and I did not notice or hear anything.

When getting out I found myself relaxed, refreshed and ready to start the day with a clear mindset & from this I took on 3 more clients for my new digital content business that day just by having a clearer outlook and less stressed mindset I was able to talk, explain and display my work clearer to clients. Now I have never been a believer in yoga, meditation and all that I have been very naive and immature to these practices always stating them as bullshit and they do nothing HOWEVER I want to take that opinion back, everyday since this first meditation session I have spend 10-15 minutes a day just putting everything down and just closing my eyes and sitting in silence. Mentally this has helped and I would recommend anyone who has a over active mindset and finds it hard to home in on one thing to give this a try. You may not zone out listening to sounds it might be that you stare at an object or sit in your room listening to music, but please just TRY!

Tierneys Top Tip- Everything at first may seem like a stupid idea or not worth your time, if everyone had this way of thinking then where would we be as a species in this modern world.

Thanks

T.
